Can You Hear Us Now?
Updated: Mar 2, 2019
A recap of our Second Annual "Make Them Hear You" event hosted with the lovely ladies of the Divine 9.
February 4, 2019 was our Annual Make Them Hear You event. Make Them Hear You, is a collaborative event with all the NPHC Divine 9 sororities as we discuss the issues of college campus rape culture.
Every year we make it our priority to create a safe space event where members of our community can gather and talk about this serious topic. We make sure to provide resources for the members of the community that attend such as, the Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention Center (RSVP) educators. We also are sure to include a Title IX representative in the event to some kind of capacity whether it is having them present to answer questions/give input, assisting us with research or providing us with information on the process of filing a report, etc.
This event is near and dear to our chapter's heart. This event is one of the ways we make sure we are listening to the voices of others in our community and we use our voices and influence as a platform to help make a change on campus. Last year the event had such a huge impact it sparked a series of meetings with the Fraternities of the NPHC, Divine 9. Our brothers in Greek Life, took the time to hear the concerns from their sisters, and also took the time to learn the definitions and different kinds of circumstances of sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape. This year we had the pleasure of having men from our community present and hearing their input was powerful.
Overall, this event for the second time was a huge success. We are very eager to put it on again next with our sisters in greek life. Thank you ladies for coming together with us and hosting such a successful and empowering event. We look forward to working with all of you again next year.
