Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was founded November 12, 1922 by Seven"Blue-tiful" educators on the campus of Butler University. The "Revered" Alpha Rho Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was found on March 24, 1973 by Five "Blue-tiful" women on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Both of these campuses are apart of the Central Region which holds great significance to the organization. The region consists of the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. In addition, the Canadian Divisions of Windsor, Ontario, and west to Saskatchewan as well as Baffin Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Queen Elizabeth Islands and Germany comprise the Central Region.

It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil, and social action. Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, health awareness, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff, and community partners work to create and support initiatives that align with our vision.
We visualize a world in which all women and their families reach their full potential in all aspects of life and are able to create unlimited opportunities for future generations.
